Sara Louise Lazarus has won multiple awards in NYC.  She received  MAC and several Bistro Awards as Outstanding Director.  Carried Away: Jeff Harnar Sings Comden and Green, which Sara directed, won “Best Show” of 2020 from Broadway World.

Sara has taught Lady Gaga, and in theatre she has directed such luminaries as Kristin Chenoweth, Carolee Carmello, Tovah Feldshuh and Jimmy Smits. 

With Jeff Harnar and Alex Rybeck Sara created 8 shows, most for the Algonquin Oak Room, including The 1959 Broadway Songbook, which was also produced as a musical revue for the popular series Lyrics and Lyricists.  On January 22, 2022 Birdland presented the trio’s most recent offering, A Collective Cy: The Music of Cy Coleman.

Sara co-founded Paper Mill Prep at the Tony-Award winning Playhouse, and has co-directed Paper Mill’s New Voices Concerts.

Theatrical productions include The Rink, She Loves Me, Starting Here, Starting Now, Evita, Cabaret, Gigi, Dames at Sea and two Harvard Hasty Pudding Shows!

Sara is Chair of Musical Theatre at Circle in the Square Theatre School, where over the past 20 years she has taught and developed the Musical Theatre curriculum.  She conceived and created a 2+2 Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Theatre and Musical Theatre, partnering Circle in the Square with Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, FL.

Sara’s students have played leading roles in Wicked, Book of Mormon, My Fair Lady at Lincoln Center, Bette Midler’s Hello Dolly, King Kong, Motown, Phantom of the Opera, Tuck Everlasting, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Titanic, and many more.
